Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday observed each year on the third Monday of January.
King, who was a leader and spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement, delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on August 28, 1963. In this speech, King called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States.
